Jeremy Jones has been a mentor to many in the snowboarding world.
His career has been on an upward trajectory most of his adult life, moving from professional racing to freeriding, and then as a leader in exploration under his own power.
But where many of his protegés have never met him, his influence is perhaps no greater than on that of his own children. For most of us, our parents are our greatest teachers, and guide us to become our own independent selves, before the leash is gone and we head out into the world untethered.
Jeremy took his daughter Mia on a splitboarding trip to the High Sierra in may of 2024, a few months before she left for college and made her own mark on the world. They brought some filmers along and documented the trip. This is the result.
For me, as a father, I can only dream of the day where I can also take my daughter into the mountains that provide clarity and remove the distractions of everyday life. It’s a goal that will take years to realize, but is worth it in the end. There will be many steps to take before we can strap on our boards, pack our backpacks, and set out into the backcountry, however it is a goal worth pursuing.
For any of us as adventurous parents, we hope that all the hard work teaching our children will result in a shared love of an activity that fuels us. This movie is the type of inspiration to keep going, to spend those days on the bunny hill, knowing that eventually it will all pay off.
